What Is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to the present moment.

Practicing mindfulness might seem like a “new age” approach to managing stress, but it is not. Mindfulness is an ancient practice that dates back over 2,500 years.  Most people in the U.S. were introduced to mindfulness by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D. in 1979, when he founded the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Clinic at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Today, mindfulness has been accepted into mainstream medicine and therapeutic settings as a scientifically research-based alternative to treating some mental and physical conditions.

THE TOP THREE REASONS TO MEDITATE:
  1. Stress Reduction: Meditation helps you create a ritual of relaxation and this lowers stress hormones.
  2. Improves Focus: Regular meditation can improve overall cognitive function by enhancing your attention span and ability to concentrate.
  3. Emotional Well-being- Mindful meditation will increase your self-awareness and in time this can boost your mood and help you learn to manage your emotions more healthily.
